Volunteer opportunity coming up next Wed. 10/6 with Brunswick 4-H.

They need 2-3 volunteers to help with National Youth Science Day (which we helped them fund) from 5:30pm-8:30pm. They need help with set up/tear down, help at the registration table to help sign people in, and then volunteers to help groups of kids conduct the experiment. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP and I will email you the facilitator guide and worksheets to read over beforehand. If you don't want to volunteer, or can't be there the whole time, but would like to come by to observe, let me know so we can give Leslie a head count, she said they would be happy to have us. -Lara Lara.landgraf@gmail.com

A big THANK YOU to all of you who helped with the volleyball tournament last weekend!

It was a huge success, and we really appreciate everyone who volunteered that day, played in the tourney, and helped with the planning of it.

Surfers Healing camp is coming up on Thursday August 19!

Hey everyone! April was able to get us some further information about volunteering that day, they need volunteers in 2 hour slots from 7am to 6pm, but the actual event runs from 9am to 5pm at the Stone St. beach access at Wrightsville Beach.

Greeters* (meet families at shuttle and help them carry things to the beach)
Volunteer Sign-in
Food Table
Merchandise Table
Childs Play Area* (face painting, tattoos, sand toys)
Lifejacket Station (helping put on children that most likely fight you to get them on-just warning you)
Board Caddies (catching boards and/or children as the surfers bring them in)
Beach Patrol (keeping the surf area free of spectators and swimmers-can be difficult because most won't listen so you have to be very insistent)
Help clean-up and load up trucks at end

The ones with the asterisks need the most help.

Most are on a two hour rotation and some are on a longer rotation. If no one cares where they go then just give your available times and they'll see where they have gaps to fill-in. Just email me Lara.landgraf@gmail.com when you are available and if you have a task preference. I know it is a weekday, but if you have a few hours to spare, I know Surfers Healing would really appreciate it! If you don't have enough time to commit to a volunteer spot, but want to come by for a bit to show your support and represent PC Ruritan, that would be great too! Thanks, Lara

Please join me in offering our support on July 14 at 16 Taps for a good cause!

On May 14, 2010, my sister Tammy was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, traveling out of town each day for treatments with her husband Chris, who has become her main caretaker. We are working hard to beat the cancer and have a very positive attitude that we will do so! Please come out on July 14th to 16 Taps on Princess Street to support a fundraising effort for my sister and her family. Chad McPeters has volunteered to play some tunes, starting around 8 - 8:30pm. There will be food, raffle, silent auction and more. A $5 donation will get you a bear hug from either John or I - you pick! ;-) Please remember to bring your cash and friends - the more the merrier! Thank you all in advance from myself, Tammy, Chris, Arianna & Austin. Your time and thoughts are greatly appreciated. - April

Good Monday to you all! I wanted to send a quick reminder to everyone regarding the Surfers Healing Loop Walk THIS Saturday at Wrightsville Beach from 10-3. Ruritan will have a booth and we are looking for volunteers to work at the booth and/or walk. If you are available, let me know! On a side note, I wanted to let everyone know about another great volunteer opportunity that Wilmingtonians have for tomorrow evening. A wonderful organization called Honor Flight of Southeastern North Carolina will be returning from the WWII Memorial in DC. This organization takes local WWII Veterans from Wilmington to DC to visit the memorial and returns the same day. They will be returning around 7:25pm tomorrow evening at the ILM airport and volunteers are needed to welcome the Veterans home. You can make a sign, bring a flag - or just bring your smiling faces. I will be there directly following our board meeting and look forward to seeing some of you as well, if you are able. Thanks to all and have a wonderful week! April Morey

Hi group! Hope you are all doing well and enjoyed your Easter holiday! We have a wonderful volunteer opportunity on April 17th that we'd love to have everyone involved with. Surfers Healing (our cause for the volleyball tournament) is having their first annual Loop Walk at Wrightsville Beach for Autism Awareness. We have been invited to have a booth at the event and walk if we would like. We need volunteers for the booth first, from 10-3. If you can only volunteer for a couple hours, that's great - we'd love to have you there! If you would like to walk, registration is the day of at 9:30am and cost is $20. The walk will begin at 10:30am. There will be other organizations and agencies represented that day as well as activities for the kids. Please email myself, Chad or Lara if you are able to volunteer.
Thanks!!!! April Morey

Just wanted to send out a reminder about the social event at Reel Cafe on Wednesday 3/31. It starts at 5:30 on the 1st floor outdoor patio at Reel, and don't forget that it is a new member recruiting event, so bring your friends and let's try to spread the word about Port City Ruritan! Get there early, the club will be covering our bar tab up to $150 (beer and half price wine only), and Reel Cafe has some great specials for us on Wed., so even after the free tab runs out, drinks are cheap!
